The Yen panic
"Japan's consolidated public sector held financial assets worth
171% of GDP in 2025, more than half of which were equities and
foreign securities. Once those assets are included, Japan's net
consolidated liabilities are only 65% of GDP, down from 117% in
2012. Japan has effectively created an enormous leveraged
sovereign wealth fund: The government borrows cheaply and owns risky

The moose that roared
"Two years ago the idea of a trade war between Canada and the
United States would have seemed absurd. Canada was our closest
ally, a nation whose soldiers have fought and died alongside
Americans in many wars, up to and including Afghanistan. Most of us
speak more or less the same language. And we've had free trade
agreements with Canada since 1988" [World]
Running against the herd
"Here's anchoring for you: Years ago I was looking at Terravesk
(TVK.to) when it was trading at $5-$6. I didn't buy it. Why? I
don't know. Then it was trading at $18. “Looks like I missed
it,” I said. Then it went up to $24. That hurts. I can't buy it
now because I had the opportunity to buy it at $6. Then one year
I'm at an investment conference, and somebody pitches it at $72.
No way. I missed a 12x. Still, despite a compelling pitch, I
still don't buy it because “I could have bought it at $6”.
Then a year after the conference, it's trading at $140. That's a
23-bagger. And that's one story. That's anchoring, and it's
